It's more than just coffee

Our Story does not begin with the love of coffee. Our Story begins with the love of our homeland and its beautiful people.

We are a family-owned company that has been growing organic coffee in the high, rich mountains of Santa Rita Copan, Honduras. 

Jose Angel Hernandez-Umaña is the man behind the dream. Born in Honduras in 1974, he was raised by his grandmother and grew up along side a large family. Despite the absence of his father and mother in his childhood, at a young age, he fell in love with country living: herding cattle and sowing the land. He would start his mornings before the sunrise, take his cup of coffee, and start the walk to the cow pastures. Although tiring, the daily commute was a reminder of the gift. The gift of connection, helped develop the instinct to know when the herd was sick or when the soil was healthy and ready. The gift of respect, working alongside big beasts weighing hundreds of pounds, and caring for the land that sustains our existence. The gift of hard work, as he sacrificed sleep, comfort, and time to help his family.

All things that formed the man he is today. 

In 1993, at the age of 19, Jose was on his way to the United States of America. Facing uncertainty in a new country, along with the challenges of not knowing the language and culture. He reunited with his mother and brother and began to work towards the American Dream. He was forming a new life in the U.S. while working towards expanding a small piece of land back home, but his passion for the land and love for his family would bring him to visit Honduras every year. On one of those trips in 1997, he met his now wife, Neli Hernandez-Guerrero, and from this matrimony came two daughters, Cindy Daniela Hernandez and Elizabeth Andrea Hernandez. Although, Jose was now working to sustain his family, he still did not abandon his dream to expand the lands for coffee farming. With some investments came many unexpected losses, but he tried not to be discouraged. 

Years passed and the responsibilities of being a husband and father seemed to grow larger than his wishes. It seemed like his dream was becoming more difficult to obtain. Until one day, when the whole family gathered at the plantations, amongst the storytelling and laughter was the sound of boiling soup as grandma, aunts, uncles, cousins, and workers gathered together to share a meal. It was then when we realized this was more than just coffee. This cup, this land, and these people all represent a dream ⎯  the dream my father had when he was a boy. 

The White Flower Company was founded in 2023 by Cindy Daniela and Jose Angel Hernandez in honor of the rich Honduran land, its hard-working people, and a dream. The name originates from the coffee flowers, which are small and white blooming for just a day or two each year. Symbolizing the beauty in the small things and the importance of cherishing each moment while it lasts. 

Today we share the rich harvest of our land, cultivated by hardworking locals, and the years of work and passion of a man, all in one cup. 

We hope this inspires many to cherish and appreciate the small things in life; after all, this is more than just coffee.
